Original situation: awkwardly shaped pool from the seventies with central wooden box containing pool equipment. Pebblecrete surface disguising level differences of awkwardly sloping ground which prohibits direct access from house to pool and garden.
Intervention: Pool, originally pale blue, is refurbished and retiled in black. Pool edge is tiled bright red. The path connecting house, garden and pool is paved with re-used bluestone. Planting is confined mostly to the perimeter.
The blue rocks hanging from the single pear tree serve to open the rather compact canopy of the tree. A method widely used in Polynesia. The level differences are visually emphasized by a yellow tiled water channel.
