Every day 15 ha of the arable land in the Czech Republic disappears under bulldozers. It is being sterilised by bitumen and other ecologically inert materials. Our lifestyle depends now on the unprecedented denaturalisation of our environment. At the same time nature remains a potent source of inspiration. We can see a strong trend towards biomimicry in architecture and design. In most cases it is confined to formal exercises only. Nature is replaced by the artificial subnature.

The spectrum of radical changes in the Czech landscape is not confined only to canola orgies of the agribusiness. Once there were beautiful lindens in town or village squares. Today we can witness a new intruder. It comes at a great discount from garden centres. Thuja trees spread like a virus. A new symbol of exclusion. Once confined to cemeteries only. Today ubiquitous.
